THE POWER OF ATTENTION

Sitting in a comforter on the far side of her dimly lit salon, she watched the men.

She loved to sit in that corner because it gave her an ample view of the clients who came without being seen. From there, there, she could assess those who were good for the money and those who were merely 'loose change'.

She had been in the business for so long that she could tell a lot about a man by his looks!

His sandals, clothing, appearance and general body language...every item had a voice!

She chuckled to herself!

The two men seated quietly in a corner with their back to the door did not look like they were from these parts,so she watched them.

There was a lot of tension because of an impending enemy attack and as a fallout the government had declared a' day and night' curfew which kept everyone from going out of the city gates.

It was late. Her clients had begun to leave, one after the other, but the 2 men were not perturbed.         The surreptitious glances of other clients did not seem to faze them.

She stood up as the last client left and made to close the door to indicate to the men that it was time to go.... Suddenly her heart began to race! She had noticed a ring on one man, the bigger of the two! It drove cold shivers down her spine. She kept staring until the man looked up and their eyes met!

He crammed his left hand and the ring finger under the fold of his tunic.

The ring had the insignia of the Hebrews. She was terrified.

Her government was so scared and petrified of these people that their city gates had been shut to keep citizens in.

They were on lockdown because of the fear of the Jews. How did these men get through the gates?

Rahab made to leave but as though sensing her tension, the man at whom she had been staring, requested for more wine.

She was alone. Suddenly she had no desire to run. She felt these people, who could come into a city that was heavily guarded and secure must know something her people did not.                   She was curious and her curiosity was stronger than fear. How did they do it?

She brought the wine.

She sat down in a chair close to them.

"My name is Caleb and that's my brother Joshua...you already know who we are.

He spoke in the language of her people.

'Yes, she replied I know who you are . ..and if I could put two and two together, I am sure others have, and may well be on their way to arrest you!

She did not understand why she was speaking to them with such ease and without fear but if these men could get into her city unseen till now, and if the stories of how their God had given them victory overthrowing nations in their wake were anything to go by, her city was already gone, but for the shouting!

She felt she could trust them. She would negotiate.

' The soldiers will be here soon, and you cannot escape now because the gates are shut.

" See, I already know your God has given you this city! If I help you, what's in it for me?" Rahab asked.

The two men looked at each other, and Caleb said, "bring all your relatives into this room when the battle starts, tie a scarlet rope on the window so that we can identify your house, that way, we will spare everyone who is inside this room when we come, because we are coming to overthrow this city!"

" Good enough, Rahab said, "come with me"!

Rahab hid the spies, and when the soldiers came searched, and couldn't find them, they went to the city gates.

Rahab protected the spies.

The saviour of the world came through her lineage!

‭Matthew 1:5 NLT‬

[5] Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse.

*The word of God will overwhelm you, and you will carry a child

Luke 1:37

‭Luke 1:37 AMPC‬

[37] For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.

When ever your mind clashes with word, defer to the word!
